Stitching Tools I Actually Use

These are the tools that have earned a permanent spot in my project bag — the ones I reach for every single time I stitch. Simple, reliable, and genuinely helpful if you’re building out your own stitching setup.

You definitely don’t need a ton of tools to enjoy needlepoint — just a few good ones that make the experience easier and more fun. These five are the ones I always have on me!

  • Stretcher Bars
My go-to for keeping canvases flat, tight, and easy to stitch. They make such a difference with tension and overall stitch consistency.
  • Tapestry Needles
I keep a small mix of sizes on hand (usually 18–24). Smooth, easy to thread, and essential for both 13-mesh and 18-mesh canvases.
  • Needle Minders!!!
A tiny (yet stylish) lifesaver that keeps my needle from disappearing into the couch, carpet, or project bag. Some of my favorites are from Morgan Julia Designs  and Go Stitch Studio.
  • Tapestry Needle Threaders
Especially helpful at night or when working with smaller needles. Makes threading quick and painless — no squinting required.
  • Rechargeable Clip On Light
The little upgrade that changes everything. Perfect for later stitching sessions or when I'm working on darker canvases.
